About q1tum.cloud
Hi, I’m Nathan Heptinstall.
I work in the Microsoft Azure ecosystem, helping organisations turn technology into practical business outcomes.
q1tum.cloud is where I explore the technologies changing how organisations build, modernise and operate — but with a focus on more than just the technology itself.
For most topics, I look at four questions:
- Possibility — What does this technology make possible?
- Reality — What actually works outside the demo?
- Architecture — How should we design and implement it?
- Business — Why should an organisation care?
That means you’ll find technical deep-dives here, but also architecture decisions, trade-offs, operating models, cost, security, resilience and the wider business case behind them.
What I explore
- Cloud & Azure Architecture — platform architecture, governance, security, resilience, networking and the decisions behind good cloud platforms
- App Modernisation — containers, Kubernetes, PaaS, APIs, DevOps and modernising legacy applications without modernising for its own sake
- AI — agents, Azure AI, Copilot, AI architecture, governance and what organisations need to think about beyond the model
- Technology Strategy — connecting architecture and engineering decisions to business outcomes, risk, cost and organisational strategy
- Emerging Technology — including quantum computing and other technologies that may reshape what becomes possible next
Get beyond the hype, understand what matters, and make better technology decisions.
The name
q1tum is a shorthand mash-up of quantum.
Quantum computing was one of the technologies that originally inspired the site, but the name has come to represent something broader: technology is full of possibilities, but understanding which possibilities actually matter requires observation, experimentation and good judgement.
The .cloud reflects where much of my work has traditionally lived — although increasingly, cloud is the foundation for a wider conversation about applications, data, AI and business transformation.
YouTube
q1tum.cloud also has a YouTube channel where I explore many of the same subjects in a more conversational format — from new technology and architecture through to modernisation, demonstrations and the business decisions behind them.
